Tibet Visa
Tibet Visa Rule when entering from Nepal to Tibet only
- Tibet permits are required for the China visa application.
- Tibet permits are processed by our office in Lhasa. This process takes a minimum of 10 working days.
- Minimum 3 working days are required to process the China visa at the Chinese Embassy in Kathmandu.
- If visa fees increase during the time of application, the extra cost will have to be paid by the clients.
Four (4) weeks prior to arrival in Kathmandu the following document must be emailed to us to process Tibet permits.
- Digital copy of the photo page of the passport. Can be scanned or a digital photo. The photo in the passport must be clearly visible, otherwise applications will be not be accepted by authorities. Passport must be valid for at least 180 days from the date of entry in Tibet.
- Visa application form to be filled and sent to us by email.
- Please fill in Section 1 to 5. Addresses, telephone nos. email address must be filled.
Following will be collected by our representative from clients on arrival in Kathmandu for China visa application.
- Original passport must be the same passport as sent earlier for Tibet permits. If the passport is different Chinese embassy will not accept visa application resulting in not being able to enter Tibet.
- One colour passport size photo.
- Cash US$ 200 if USA passport holder, cash US$ 150 if Canadians or cash US$ 115 if other passport holder. No credit cards or travellers’ cheques accepted for this.
- Chinese visa application will take a minimum of 3 working days. Clients should plan on spending 4 or more nights in Nepal prior to Tibet entry.
Note:
- If you are exiting from Tibet to any of the cities in China. We need to know the city that you will be finally exiting China. In such case we will apply a separate visa for you which must mention the name of the Chinese city that you will be exiting from.
- Chinese Group Visa cannot be extended or exit cities names cannot be changed.
Tibet Visa Rule when entering from Mainland China to Tibet only
When group is entering Tibet from mainland China, (i.e. via Chengdu, Beijing and then to Lhasa) a China visa [L/T class] is required. Please note that while applying for Chinese visa you should NOT mention in the application that you are visiting Tibet, otherwise your visa may be refused. In the application form, put down places like Beijing, Shanghai, Xian, etc. With a Chinese visa you can enter China but will need Tibet Permits to enter Tibet. Our office in Lhasa will process your Tibet Permits. These permits must be delivered to you in the city where you will board your flight to Lhasa. Without this permit you cannot board your flight to Lhasa. The cost of the Tibet permit has been included in your tour cost.
What we need to get your Tibet permits:
- Digital copy of your passport.
- Digital copy of your Chinese visa.
- Purchase of a Tibet tour package.
Timeline for Tibet Permits: Please allow 21 days time for processing Tibet permit and delivery.

- For Tibet permit delivery in the Chinese city where you board for Lhasa flight 3 working days required.
